Photo Tour Itinerary

All photo tours are completely based on subject preference of the participant(s). I like to plan my photo tours around the Golden Hours of the day – around sunrise of sunset. During these time frames the light is most dramatic, and thus creating the most compelling images. In my opinion sunrise is the best time of day in the Canadian Rockies for landscape photography.

Following is an itinerary of a Journey Through Jasper photo tour on July 1st. This particular tour will start 1.5 to 2 hours before sunrise/sunset to allow plenty of time for any driving to location(s) and to scout for different compositions.

Time of sunrise: 5.32 AM.

3.30 AM – Pick-up at location of clients choice, or at the Jasper Information Centre. Quick stop for coffee before hitting the road to our location(s).

3.30 AM to 5.00 AM – Drive to location(s). Leaving plenty of time to discuss our options.

5.00 AM to 5.15 AM – Arrive at location and scout for various compositions.

5.15 AM to 5.30 AM – Set-up camera, start shooting in blue hour and finalize composition.

5.30 AM to 7.00 AM – Start of sunrise, shoot mountain landscapes in Golden Hour light. Note that shooting time may vary depending on location and light conditions – every photo tour includes a minimum of 1.5 hours of shooting.

6.30 AM to 8.00 AM – Begin our journey back to the Jasper, keeping an eye open for more photo opportunities.

8.30 AM – Arrive back in town of Jasper at location of clients choice, or at the Jasper Information Centre.

8.35 AM – More coffee? Yes please.

The De Smet ranges bathes in vibrant morning light.
